EEO Policy

Wichita Transit, located in Wichita, Kansas, has enacted policy to provide equal opportunity to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, national origin, sex, ancestry, disability, sexual or affectional preference, marital status, or age, except where age is a bona fide occupational qualification, and the obligation to provide equal opportunity for employment includes, but is not limited to:

  1. Recruitment, advertising, or solicitation for employment,
  2. Hiring, placement, upgrading, transfer, or demotion,
  3. Treatment during employment,
  4. Rates of pay or other form of compensation,
  5. Selection for training,
  6. Layoff, termination or reinstatement, and
  7. Complaint procedures.

Wichita Transit also recognizes that the effective application of a policy of equal employment involves more than just a policy statement and will, therefore, undertake the program of affirmative action, to make known that equal employment opportunities are available on the basis of individual merit, and to encourage all persons to seek employment with Wichita Transit and to strive for advancement on this basis. In addition, the Equal Employment Opportunity policy will be posted on all bulletin boards and given during orientation of new employees.

Further, Wichita Transit recognizes that a policy of nondiscrimination in itself is insufficient when attempting to reverse traditional patterns of discrimination.

It is necessary to implement an aggressive action plan of recruitment to help achieve, at all levels, a transit system which is truly representative of the City of Wichita's resident available work force.

Also, all Wichita Transit supervisory personnel will be fully advised of this policy and of their responsibilities with respect to it. Periodic meetings with employees to affirm and reaffirm the policy of nondiscrimination, and equal employment opportunity will be conducted.
